From the Pits to Profitable Future with Electronic Trading Systems Powered by Sun Microsystems™, Inc.

Gemini Facilities CORE Group, over the course of fours years, turned the largest futures exchange in the United States from the rowdy, paper-strewn trading pits of the past to the reliable, scalable and secure electronic trading platform of the future.

The first step was to provide the infrastructure for the exchange’s proprietary, global trading system, based on the UltraSPARC® architecture and Solaris™ operating system environment. Gemini Facilities CORE Group was there with highly, scalable solutions based on Sun Microsystems™, Inc.’s departmental and enterprise class servers and storage arrays.

To increase reliability and availability, fully redundant servers were clustered in geographically, distance locations. While dual processor, departmental servers were deployed on the front end for high speed, on-line transaction processing, enterprise class servers were utilized for database functions.

Within two years, 20% of the exchange’s contracts were traded electronically and two years later, over 68% of all contracts were electronically traded; a testament to the scalability of the Sun Microsystems™, Inc. infrastructure provided by Gemini Facilities CORE Group.

This large-scale deployment of over 350 Sun Microsystems™, Inc. servers at the largest, futures exchange in the United States helped consolidate this client’s market position,

as they embraced the evolution of the electronic, trading technology. With Sun Microsystems™, Inc.’s technology, Gemini Facilities CORE Group was able to address the complete securities transaction life cycle while increasing automation across the entire value chain.
